EnBW North America Ramps Up Fisheries Outreach April 19 , 2021Clean energy company’s Fisheries Liaison renews in-person fisheries outreach in New York Bight in advance of offshore wind planning, starting with a trip to eastern Long Island fishing ports and launch of online fishing survey. EnBW North America’s Fisheries Liaison, Beth Casoni, will travel to eastern Long Island fishing ports later this month to connect with commercial and recreational fishermen in New York and New Jersey. Beth will visit Greenport, Shinnecock, and Montauk fishing ports, the first trip of many planned in the region for 2021. As part of the company’s preparation to participate in the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management’s lease auction of New York Bight wind energy areas at the end of 2021 or early 2022, EnBW North America is seeking information from the fishing and maritime industries for their insights into fishing practices in the region and to start a dialogue about ways to positively co-exist in federal waters. EnBW encourages the US fishing industry to reach out to Beth with questions and insights and to also fill out a new online survey: www.enbw.us/fishingsurvey. “It’s important fishermen share their experiences and raise their concerns with the offshore wind community and I’m here to ensure this happens clearly and efficiently,” said Beth Casoni. “I look forward to meeting with fishermen in Long Island this month and others along the East Coast throughout the year to bring this important feedback to EnBW North America as they look toward offshore wind development in the New York Bight.” This outreach is part of EnBW’s greater commitment to fishing communities which prioritizes early, frequent, and transparent communication, utilizing the best science, putting safety first, and minimizing conflicts.
