EnBW North America Joins New York Offshore Wind Alliance

North American affiliate of German renewable energy leader looks forward to advancing New York’s pacesetting offshore wind targets

March 26, 2019 – Embracing nation-leading offshore wind goals set by Gov. Andrew Cuomo, EnBW North America today became a member of the New York Offshore Wind Alliance (NYOWA), a broad coalition of companies and organizations promoting the responsible development of offshore wind power in the Empire State.

“EnBW North America is excited to join the New York Offshore Wind Alliance to help advance the Cuomo Administration’s historic commitment to responsible offshore wind development,” said Bill White, Managing Director of EnBW North America, a subsidiary of EnBW AG, which built Germany’s first commercial scale offshore wind project in 2011. “With a diverse membership connected by a common mission, NYOWA is a central voice in New York’s offshore wind conversation and we are proud to join the effort.”

A project of the Alliance for Clean Energy New York, NYOWA is committed to promoting policies that will lead to the development of offshore wind off the New York coastline. Its specific goal is to secure policies and programs that will achieve the Governor’s goal of 9,000 megawatts of offshore wind power by 2035, through both public education and advocacy.

EnBW North America is the latest in a roster of NYOWA members that includes energy companies, environmental organizations, clean energy advocates, labor groups, and institutions of higher education. White noted that the company is pursuing offshore wind opportunities on both US coasts, and intends to compete in a federal lease auction for areas in the New York Bight (off the coast of Long Island) expected to take place late this year or in early 2020.

About EnBW North America – EnBW North America is a subsidiary of EnBW AG, a German utility and leading European offshore wind developer with a portfolio of nearly 1,000 MW of offshore wind projects under operation or construction in Europe and more than 3,000 MW under development globally. EnBW North America is establishing offices in Boston and Jersey City to pursue offshore wind opportunities in the Northeast. On the West Coast, EnBW North America is the majority owner of Castle Wind, the nation’s first proposed floating offshore wind project off Morro Bay, California.
